About Us
Arhitext design foundation
Arhitext design has represented, for more than 20 years, a tool for the constant screening of the Romanian cultural space and for the harmonization with the international cultural trends in the fields of architecture, art and design. Supported in its endeavors by (Romanian and foreign) architects and established theorists of these fields, Arhitext Design foundation has managed to valorize the concept of sustainable development through its projects, to encourage the critical spirit and thus to outline new tendencies and to identify present and future values.
Through the projects undertaken, ARHITEXT design intends to achieve one of its most important goals: to initiate a process of formation and construction of a Romanian cultural context. That is why some of the most important aspects considered by the Foundation in its endeavors are inter-disciplinarity and the exchange of ideas between various related fields.
The objectives the Foundation set out to achieve 20 years ago were reached one by one, ARHITEXT design becoming a platform for the exchange of ideas, for the observation of critical and theoretical stances which concurrently form and shape a cultural context we continually need.
Arhitext magazine
Arhitext, boasting a more than 20-year old tradition on the market of specialized architecture publications, is an elite cultural magazine and the most important trend-setting magazine in this field. Its emergence on the market of Romanian cultural publications meant the recovery of a less approached or known area, dealing with the current achievements in the field of architecture, urban planning, architectural and urban design, thus becoming a magazine of great interest on a national, as well as international scale.
Arhitext, more than a magazine, may be regarded as a collection publication carrying theoretical weight in the field of architecture, proposing an inter-disciplinary approach to this field. The set of themes of the magazine’s issues is of great topical interest, each theme defining itself rather through the interdisciplinary analysis of the concept discussed and through a direct connection to the present reality. This approach to architecture has caused Arhitext to stand out among the other publications on the market and to become an important theoretical landmark in the analysis of current architecture.
Structure of the magazine:
Arhitext consists of four main sections dealing successively with various public demands.
Information – the first part of the magazine contains information of architectural interest and is mainly targeted at the younger readers. This section mainly features architectural projects received further to our collaboration with foreign architecture studios and essays of well-known or younger architects participating in the essay competitions launched by the magazine. In this section, Arhitext answers the needs of that category of readers wishing to be kept informed about the newest evolutions in the field and interested in the fresh architectural projects happening abroad.
Continuous information – it is the section dedicated to the University of Architecture and Urban Planning, featuring both students’ projects and information relating to the activity of the University: conferences, exhibitions, presence at international events etc. Highlighted in the content of the magazine through the type of paper used, which is different in terms of texture, thickness and colors, this section has become an important reference point for the readers for promoting and bringing to the foreground the students and young architects. Since it is a section exclusively written by students, the readers or the public of this section mainly consists of the students and professors at the Faculties of Architecture and Urban Planning in Bucharest and throughout the country.
The theme – or the core of the magazine is the most extensive section of the magazine and represents the point of maximum interest for the public targeted by us. The themes of our issues, always topical and exciting, are what defines and at the same time differentiates Arhitext magazine from other publications of its kind. In addition to making a description of the projects featured by it, Arhitext also puts these projects into a framework and comments on them by reference to a certain concept. This is why the magazine has managed to stand out and attract appreciation from Romanian and foreign readers who are more and more interested in fresh approaches to architecture, concepts and projects The theoretical section of the magazine is completed, starting from this year, by an architectural program theme, aiming to be a more practical and concise presentation of the theme. Thus, the magazine answers the needs of a larger, more elite public and manages to remain, by means of its presentation of interesting projects, be they Romanian or foreign, among the quality trend-setting magazines in Romania.
Projects – This section is of interest from two important perspectives. Firstly, it is exclusively dedicated to the architectural projects carried out in Romania. Secondly, because the projects featured in this section enter the competition for the awarding of one of the prizes offered by the Arhitext Design Foundation in The Arhitext design prizes competition (boasting a 10-year old tradition already), organized every two years. Thus, Arhitext promotes and presents quality Romanian architectural projects, also calling the public’s attention to the names of reputed Romanian architects. The projects featured in this section are described in detail and are accompanied by a detailed technical key. Such technical key comprises information about the architects involved in that project or the design team, the beneficiary, the materials used and even the firms involved in the project at issue.
