TECON – Teaching Pool

Project Structure Adjustment: S.C. ALTFEL CONSTRUCT S.R.L.

In 2007, Compania Naţională de Investiţii started a national program for the construction of swimming pools intended for swimming lessons. The Câmpina pool was the first to be completed.

The building hosting the pool was supposed to cover as small an area as possible so as to fit easily in various locations. The chosen solution was a one-volume building intended to host both the swimming pool hall and the auxiliary and technical spaces.

The building is conceived as a standalone one, detached from any other existing constructions, and looks like a bent semi-buried tube. Thus the dynamic appearance lent by the smooth elongated silhouette becomes representative for the hosted functions.

The building’s roof is «vaulted», the wooden arches reclining on the two lateral diaphragm walls. The vault consisting of clamped wood lamellas turned out to be an efficient system entailing reasonable implementation and maintenance costs.

On the ground floor of the building are the lockers and the technical spaces, and on the upper floor, the pool hall and the first aid room. The size of the pool is suitable for its teaching destination, i.e. 12.5 X 25 m with a depth varying from -1.20 to -1.80 in the block start area.
